I have to say that I have never heard of the term “net.art” or “net.artists” before. It was really interesting to read about something that connected to the rise of digital art and explained to some degree how things evolved to create the digital art world that we live in today. The time that this idea was born made a lot of sense given the new technologies such as email. I found it particularly interesting when they talked about how people began to personalize their desktops and homepages of websites. To me, this sounds like it encouraged a creative side for a lot of people and I would bet that there are a lot of people out there that never even realized that they were taking part in digital or net.art. Another idea from this article that really stood out to me was the idea of “cyber feminism.” I would never have even thought about discrimmination like this being so apparent in art that took place on the internet. Another concept that I found interesting was hackers. It makes a lot of sense why people would want to be doing this, even though higher levels can be extremely unethical. When discussing this idea, I can see a spectrum from harmless fun and comedy to detrimental danger that can really affect a person. This article just goes to show how powerful digital art and net.art can be, but, with great power comes… you know the saying. (BTW it’s “great responsibility” and I really hope you knew that!)
