4:33 Trippy Flight Project + Artist Statement

Updated: Apr 25, 2022

For this soundscape, I used a variety of sounds to create a sense of confusion. The 4:33 soundtrack follows an atypical airplane experience beginning with a flight attendant welcoming the passengers, edited to echo out. Originally, I did not have this effect on the flight attendant’s voice, but I believe that adding the echo made a huge difference in the tone of the entire piece. The purpose of this was to begin the track with a familiar yet skewed sound to show that this wasn’t just your regular flight. Throughout, you hear a variety of sounds that I felt all matched the same vibe. I think that the different variations of glass sounds emulate a sense of being disconnected from reality and the keys jingling symbolize a common sound when traveling. I also have sounds of a creek and rustling leaves to add a taste of nature to keep in touch with a worldly experience. I did not want the sound to seem too unrealistic so I think these untouched sounds were an important part of the soundtrack. I added music from a party with people talking in the background because usually people are not fully aware of everything going on in such a busy scene, which made sense with my idea of confusion. I also chose to repeat a lot of the sounds in an unpredictable pattern because I wanted everything to be connected, yet still give the trippy vibe that I was going for.
